Volunteer Board of Directors.
In addition to Board responsibilities, each board member also contributes significant time in direct management and/or support of project development, planning, design, fund raising, field operations, and liaison with collaborating organizations and the families we serve.
Baxter Burke, Chairman
Executive with 32 years of experience with IBM in sales, marketing, market requirements planning, product development, and consulting. Special expertise in developing innovative marketing, sales support systems, and training as part of the product development cycle.
As IBM’s National Advisor for Special Education, established the first IBM support center for persons with disabilities. Organized collaborative projects with business, education, government, and community agencies in support of computer camps for children and adults with disabilities.
Initiated the Delaware Valley Project with Industry employment center in Philadelphia, in partnership with the Electronic Industries Foundation, over 300 employers, and the state departments of rehabilitation in Eastern Pennsylvania, Southern New Jersey, and Delaware. To date over 4,000 persons with disabilities have been hired into meaningful jobs.
Received special awards from Delaware Rehabilitation Association, National Easter Seal Society, and the President’s Committee on Employment of the Handicapped.
Baxter contributes in planning and organizational development activities, and outreach and collaboration with other organizations.
Eric Swett
Larry Dewberry
Educated at Southern Technical Institute and Georgia Tech in electrical engineering. Worked in development and manufacturing of electrical equipment and machinery of several types. Worked last 30 years in poultry processing industry specializing in development and marketing feather removal methods, and other equipment. Presently is engaged part time as a consultant for companies in the same type of business.
Larry has served as a volunteer on the Citizens Panel Review board in Cobb County for the past 14 years. He reviews the situations of Foster children to assure that they are in the best conditions possible. He has volunteered for the past 40 years on church programs along with assisting the United Methodist Children's home cottage program.
Larry heads our finance committee, and is very active in liaison with faith-based organizations that are a major source for our volunteer workers. Larry also oversees our projects and activities in the East Atlanta and East Atlanta Rural areas.
Ray Rowell
Retired from AT&T with 31 years of service. As District Manager was responsible for communications planning for nine southeastern states as well as entering into contracts for materials and construction projects.
Is very active in Lions Clubs International (currently Club President), and with AT&T Telephone Pioneers. Community service includes, among other projects, homeless shelters, battered women shelters, Habitat for Humanity, Atlanta Hospital Hospitality House, United Methodist Children’s Home, and ”Ramps for Champs” of FODAC. Is currently a member of the Building Grounds Committee at his church, responsible for clean-up, painting, and repairs.
Ray is very active with coordinating our activities with AT&T and Bell South Pioneers, and Habitat for Humanity. He also oversees our projects and activities in the North Georgia Mountain Areas.
David Horn
Founder and owner of Applied Network Management Services – a computer network-consulting firm – Dave has over 16 years of technical experience with computer networks, communications routing and workload administration, supervision of technical staff, contract administration, and customer service management.
After completing the two-year DeVry electronics program, he worked as a network technician for INSOL installing and maintaining computer networks for small business owners, and was promoted to Manager of Customer Service. He then became the Service Manager for PC Doctors, responsible for the work of seven Network Engineers, and two Purchasing Managers.
Prior to launching his own business he worked for UNISYS as a General Services Contract Administrator, and for ALT Communications as their Senior NT Microsoft Windows Administrator.
Raised on a farm, Dave has a wide variety of practical construction and mechanical skills – including aircraft maintenance. He has worked as a volunteer on a number of our projects, and most recently has become one of our most valued Crew Leaders. He initiated the idea of using laptop PC’s to improve our on-site project management, and is currently assisting in developing the system design and specifications.
Phoebe L. Hiland, CPA
Graduate of Georgia State University – Bachelor of Business Administration 1982 Licensed by the State of Georgia – Certified Public Accountant Member AICPA and Georgia Society of Public Accountants
Currently serving as President of the North Perimeter Chapter of the GA Society of CPA’s. Second term as President. Served prior immediate two years as Vice-President of North Perimeter Chapter. Served 4 years as Secretary
Past member of the Board of Directors for the Georgia Society of CPA’s:
Have both public accounting and private industry accounting experience. Have held positions as Director of Finance for Beacon Technical Industries and Vice President of Finance for Air Courier Dispatch. Currently employed as Treasurer/ Controller for Glenn Sales Company.
Past volunteer service includes work with the Cystic Fibrosis Foundation and The Leukemia and Lymphoma Society. Currently, I teach Children’s Church once a month for Wesley Chapel UMC, fill in for 3rd/4th grade Sunday School and serve on the Children’s Ministry.
